INEC alone can’t conduct credible elections – Okorocha

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has said that the Independent National Electoral Commission alone cannot guarantee credible elections.

Okorocha who spoke in Owerri, the state capital, said that for the elections to be credible, security Agencies and religious organizations must play critical roles.

The governor who said that he had implicit confidence in the INEC, insisted that president Muhammadu Buhari will win the February 16, presidential election.

The governor said, “I have confidence in INEC but the truth is that INEC alone cannot guarantee credible elections. The police, Army and all the security Agencies have to be involved. Religious organizations and other stakeholders in society have to be involved.

“President Muhammadu Buhari is a man of forthrightness and integrity. He will be reelected, that is why we are supporting him. We must not allow them to rig the elections.”

Okorocha said that he would keep working until May 29 when he will handover, even as he boasted that the combined efforts of the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in the state, Senator Hope Uzodinma and senator Osita Izunaso will not stop him from going to the Senate.

Canvassing support for the Action Alliance governorship candidate, Uche Nwosu, Okorocha said that the state would be in safe hands with Nwosu as his successor.
