A fuel tanker was seen burning along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Friday morning.
According to a Twitter user, Jojo Amiegbe, who shared the video of the burning tanker on the social media platform, the tanker was burning just before Redeemed Camp on the Lagos-bound traffic side of the road.
In the video, the presence of emergency services was not seen.
The Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed the tanker fire.
In a statement signed by Florence Okpe, FRSC Public Education Officer (Ogun Command), the incident happened as a result of suspected excessive speed which led to the loss of control.
FRSC said that the tanker flipped and caught fire. The incident happened at around 7:30 a.m. at KM 30 of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway around Christopher University, Mowe, Ogun State.
“The Fire Service were invited and they extinguished the fire. The crash scene has been cleared and traffic restored on the Expressway
The injured victim was rescued to Famobis Hospital Lotto, near Mowe, Ogun State.”
In the statement, the FRSC Ogun State Sector Commander Clement Oladele has advised drivers, including those driving articulated vehicles to drive cautiously and within the recommended speed limit to avoid unnecessary road traffic crashes.
This is the third fire incident involving tankers this Friday.
