Rohr predicts tough AFCON semis

Super Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr, has said the Nigerian team would approach their semi-final game with the mindset that it would be the toughest to be played at ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

He said this while addressing the players alongside officials of the Nigeria Football Federation on Thursday at the Le Meridien Cairo Airport Hotel.

This is as the three-time champions resumed training at the Aerosport pitch inside the Cairo Airport on Thursday ahead of Sunday’s encounter at the Cairo International Stadium.

The Eagles on Wednesday defeated South Africa 2-1 to advance to the last four of Africa’s biggest championship.

While saying that the semi-final matches would tough, he said, “The next match in a championship is always the toughest, so it is always important to approach it that way. That is why we must now forget what we achieved against South Africa in our quarter-final match and start to build up towards the semi-final.”

Rohr, who has recorded 20 wins in 34 matches, drawn five and lost nine as the Nigeria coach, also charged the players to be focused and committed.

“There is no time to rest on our oars. We must make all the sacrifices we can now to achieve our objectives at this tournament. We must stay focused and be fully committed,” he added.
