Nyesom Wike: The new Saint of PDP South or just unstable? – Val Frakas Amadi

Wike’s cry of Marginalization against Southern PDP members would have been a lot louder and more credible if he had fought harder for the micro-zoning of the PDP ticket to the South East

Is Nyesom Wike the new Saint of the South or just an agrieved, unstable, reckless, tactless and Selfish politician? –

I love Gov  Nyesom Wike – His swagg, his tongue-wagging, his seeming fearlessness, his tough posturings as a protector of the people  and his ‘seeming’ aura of sincerity. If you noticed, i purposely wrote “seeming aura of sincerity” to highlight the fact that Wike had not always been sincere with /about most things political around him, especially on the issue of micro-zoning the 2023 presidency to the South East. I do enjoy his comedic approach to the issues of the day, especially when his much-talked about traveling music band sings loudly and to his pleasure in the same Language, Igbo, whose tribe Wike once denied as his ethnicity.  Lately, he is becoming more of a comedian/clown than a serious politician. That is largely because most people feel that he had a chance to fight marginalization against South Easterners during the last PDP primaries but chose not to and now, all of a sudden, after losing the promaries to Atiku, is crying ‘wolf’ over PDP chairmanship and the zoning formula. If Wike had a better and more consistent track record of fighting against oppression and marginalization before this Atiku/Ayu saga, perhaps, more people would have agreed with him and his current so called push against “Marginalization of the South” would have gained a bit more traction. A civil/human rights crusader/prophet can hardly be anointed  overnight indeed.

I have a feeling that if Wike had won the PDP primaries, he would have, by himself, “Micro-Zoned” the presidency to the South East by withdrawing as the PDP candidate and handing over to a S.E candidate. Lol.. Afterall he said, on one of those epic moments of his denial of his ‘Igbo-ness’,  “I am not Igbo but Ndi Igbo have been ‘our neighbours’ for many years”. I am sure he loves his neighbours (Ndi Igbo) as himself.. S.M.D.H (Shaking My Damn Head). Also, I am sure he would not hesitate to show the Igbos extra neighbourly love by handing over the PDP Presidential tcket to them, had he won it . Lol.

Bottom line is that this Wike Guy killed Igbos in Obigbo and denied his Igbo-ness just to win the hearts of some Northerners and hoping on cajoling them into making him the PDP 2023 flag bearer but he got played in the end. He should have been gunning for a S.E micro-zoning as that would have been the most equitable thing to do instead of going for a larger ‘Southern’ zoning’ that included himself as a candidate. When the push for a larger Southern Zoning failed and throwing open the contest became the option, he had a chance to fight it further but did not, just because the permutation would still include him as a candidate. Sad. So, the questions remain,

(1) Why didn’t Wike fight vigorously to insist on micro-zoning the PDP ticket to the South East but wanted and fought only for a ‘Southern’ zoning?  ANSWER – Because micro-zoning to the South East would exclude him as candidate but Zoning it to the larger South would include him as a contestant.

(2) When the option was to throw the contest wide open, why didn’t Wike reject it? ANSWER –  Because it would still include him as a contestant.

(3) Why is Wike now kicking and fuming over the Chairmanship of Ayu and Atiku’s refusal to oush Ayu out as PDP chairman?? ANSWER – Because Wike is aggrieved that he lost the ticket to Atiku via what he believes to be an erhnic gang-up with Tambuwal and others against him and now wants to be seen as having forced a major concession out of the Atiku camp by having Ayu go as Chairman.

(4) Is Wike really fighting for the marginalized Southerners or fighting for himself ? – ANSWER – You fill in the gap. Lol.

On a good day, since the Presidential candidtae of the PDP emerged from the North, the chairman should have come from the South so that equity can be ensured. Ayu’s emergence as the Chairman without a reciprocal proclaimarion of the zoning of rhe oresidency to the South and the quietness of the likes of Wike to this Misnomer and event was the root cause of all these. They all kept quiet because they mostly wanted the contest thrown to wide open so they could all be included in the contest and against the aspiratons of South Easterners. Sad.

Some people that we spoke to within the PDP ranks believe that Wike wants to get rid of Ayu as a payback for his support for Atiku and his perceived malpractices at the last PDP primaries that produced Atiku as the party’s candidate. They believe that if given the chance, Wike would install one of his puppets as the next PDP chairman and many even fear that he could try to use the new Chairman to mess up Atiku’s chance of winning the 2023 elections, opening up a possible 2027 run for Wike. If the speculations are right, shouldn’t Atiku then resist the ousting of Ayu as vigorously as he is doing it now? The idea Self preservation and protection of positions remain very central at the hearts of most Nigerian politicians.

Whoever comes to equity must come with clean hands.
