NLC gives FG four-day deadline to reduce fuel price, review minimum wage

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has given the Federal Government until October 27, 2026, to meet its demands or face a possible nationwide shutdown of economic activities.

The NLC’s Acting General Secretary, Benson Upah, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday following a meeting with the Minister of Labour.

NLC’s demands include a reduction in fuel prices from as high as N1,429 per litre and an upward review of the minimum wage from the current N70,000.

The union has directed its affiliates, state councils and civil society allies to begin mobilising for possible nationwide action from October 27.

The NLC expressed dissatisfaction that no concrete commitments were secured from the Federal Government during the meeting, leaving all its demands unresolved.

“The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has given the Federal Government until October 27 to address workers’ demands, as failure will lead to a nationwide strike,” Upah said in a statement.
