Manchester United have submitted a bid to sign Ajax goalkeeper, Andre Onana, the Daily Record reports.
United have been in talks with David De Gea, over a new contract but nothing has been agreed yet.
De Gea has just one year remaining on his current contract and would be free to negotiate with teams in Europe from the start of January.
The Spain international is demanding a significant increase on his current deal, that would see him earn parity with Alexis Sanchez, who earns a basic salary of £400,000 a week.
But United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is not willing to match De Gea’s terms and is now actively seeking replacements.
The club has submitted a bid for Onana, but Ajax have rejected the offer.
United are also unwilling to meet Ajax’s asking price for Onana and are considering Barcelona goalkeeper, Jasper Cillessen, as an alternative signing.
Cillessen, who joined Barcelona from Ajax, is valued in excess of €25m (£22m).
