Ihedioha preaches unity between church and govt

Governor Emeka Ihedioha of Imo State has urged religious leaders to work with his administration to foster sustainable unity in the society.

He made the call on Friday in Owerri, the capital, when he hosted bishops and archbishops of the Joint Council of Anglican Provinces, who visited him at the Government House.

Ihedioha thanked them for their prayers and support, assuring them that his government would ensure that the rule of law prevails in all circumstances.

He also promised that his regime would not play politics with religion.

The governor, who noted that the state and the church were one, pledged to work in tandem with the Christian community towards realising the task of rebuilding Imo.

He said, “Aside from the stench in Imo that we inherited, we are also not unmindful of the fact that those who do not want peace for the state are already working against the government.

“But we shall remain focused in our bid to fix the state. We need your prayers in that direction.”

Speaking earlier, leader of the delegation and Chairman of the Council, Archbishop Caleb Maduoma, advised Ihedioha to work towards upholding integrity, equity, and avoiding sycophants.

He said, “Beware of sycophants who would want to bring you down. Uphold integrity and remain straightforward in your work.”
