Gunmen kill seven in fresh Plateau attacks

It was learnt that while four young men were shot dead in an ambush by gunmen in Adu village and one killed in Miango town, all in the  Bassa Local Government Area, two other persons were shot dead by gunmen in the Jos North and Mangu council areas, respectively.

A youth leader, Moses Gata, and the ex-spokesman for the Miango Youth Development Association in the council area, Mr Lawrence Zongo, confirmed the Bassa killings to our correspondent in Jos on Monday

They said the latest attacks on the communities underscored the growing insecurity in the council area, which, they said, had witnessed attacks by gunmen in recent weeks, with no fewer than 15 persons killed and properties worth millions of naira destroyed.

Moses said, “It was around 9.30pm on Sunday that four friends who were riding a motorcycle were ambushed and shot dead by gunmen in Adu community.

“Three of them, Emmanuel Kure, 24; Chohu Nyangu, 25 years; and Friday Musa 26 years, died on the spot from bullet wounds while the forth one, Anta Yakubu, 26 years,  later died at Enos Hospital, Miango where he was rushed to.

“Soldiers and policemen were all at the scene of the attack this morning. It was the police vehicle that was used to convey the corpses to the burial ground at Miango-Vom road.

“About an hour after the ambush in Adu village, gunmen broke into the house of one Abdullahi Yusuf in Miango town and shot him dead. That is the terrible situation our people have found themselves.”

On the killing in Jos North, it was gathered that a miner, identified as Ali Shekara, was shot dead by gunmen at his residence in Naraguta community in the council area.

Residents said Shekara was into mining and had just retired into his house when he was killed by the assailants on Sunday night.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Plateau State, Mr Ubah Ogaba, when contacted, requested for more time to speak on the killings.

He said, “Please give me time to do that.  Thank you.  Stay blessed and stay safe.”

State Coordinator, Neighbourhood Watch, Mr Ola Azeez, confirmed the killings in the Bassa Local Government Area and added that he would investigate those that occurred in the Jos North and Mangu council areas respectively.
