Don’t deface NYSC uniforms, DG warns corpers

The National Youth Service Corps has issued a warning to corps members in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja to avoid defacing the NYSC uniform issued to them.

The NYSC Director-General, Brig.-Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim, gave the warning on Tuesday while addressing corps members at the Nasarawa State Orientation Camp in Keffi, adding that the NYSC uniform was a national identity and must not be defaced.

A statement by the NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs Adenike Adeyemi, on Tuesday, quoted the DG as saying, “As corps members, you are warned not to deface the NYSC uniform because this is your national identity by which you are expected to be properly dressed at all times as graduates and responsible role models.

“I admonish you to also obey the culture and traditions of your host communities and discharge your statutory responsibilities with diligence. Avoid keeping late nights in order not to endanger yourselves.

“Never allow money becloud your patriotism. Don’t allow your action today hunt you tomorrow. You must be of good conduct and add value to wherever you are. Take advantage of the potentials of the orientation exercise and its benefits.”

He added, “I appeal to you to exercise discipline, focus and be strongly determined to attain greater heights in life. I want you to study the NYSC Act and allow it to guide your conduct because it is part of the Nigerian constitution which regulates NYSC’s activities.”
