CJN swears in Dongban-Mensem as Appeal Court president today

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, will on Friday (today) swear in Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem as the substantive President of the Court of Appeal.

The Supreme Court’s Director of Information, Dr Festus Akande, confirmed this to our correspondent on Thursday.

A post on the Court of Appeal’s Facebook page on Thursday also confirmed the event scheduled to take place on Friday.

The message added, “Dear all,  please, join us to felicitate and pray for the successful tenure of the new. President of the Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, as she takes her oath of office as the 7th President.”

The planned inauguration came on the heels of her being recommended by the National Judicial Council to PresidentMuhammadu Buhari and subsequent confirmation of her appointment by the Senate.

Dongban-Mensem has been acting as the President of the Court of Appeal since March 6, 2020, the day her predecessor, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, retired.
