Troops kill five bandits, rescue 25 abductees in Zamfara, Nasarawa

The troops in Zamfara rescued 10 men, four women and four children, including seven others in Nasarawa, with scores of the bandits reportedly fleeing with gunshot injuries.

The Defence Headquarters, Abuja, said on Friday that 140 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, three AK-47 rifles, 86 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 53 blank ammunition and a motorcycle were recovered from the bandits.

The DHQ Defence Media Operations Coordinator, Maj Gen John Enenche, said, “In Operation Hadarin Daji, troops neutralised several bandits including a notorious gunrunner popularly known as Alhaji in Zamfara State. Troops also rescued 10 men, four women and four children.

“Similarly, troops of Guards Brigade, Nigerian Army, operating with troops of Operation Whirl Stroke and supported by the Nigerian Air Force conducted a clearance operation on Wednesday and Thursday at the Toto LGA of Nasarawa. The operation was a follow-up exploitation against fleeing Daru Salam sect recently dislodged from their camps at the Uttu general area of Nasarawa State.

“During the Operation, troops engaged the criminals and neutralised four of them. In all the operations, most of the bandits and criminals fled or escaped with gunshot wounds with narrow chances of survival.”
