
A student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, has reportedly died after he was allegedly beaten by fellow students over a suspected case of phone theft.
The incident occurred in the Eni Njoku male hostel.
DAILY POST has yet to ascertain the identity of the deceased.
According to a post shared on Facebook on Thursday by popular social media influencer Sen Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, the student was dragged out and brutally assaulted by other occupants of the hostel, leaving him with severe injuries.
He stated: “UNN Student Dies After Beating at Eni Njoku Hostel.
“A sad incident was reported at Eni Njoku male hostel in UNN, where a student allegedly died after being beaten by other hostel residents over a suspected phone theft.
“The student was dragged out and beaten, which left him with serious injuries. Efforts to save his life did not succeed.
“Authorities of @University of Nigeria Nsukka will now do like nothing happened inside #UNN.”
As at the time of filing this report, the UNN management had not issued an official statement on the matter.
The acting Public Relations Officer of the university, Inya Agha Egwu, when contacted, told that he was currently in Lagos and therefore unable to provide immediate information.
However, a senior lecturer at the institution confirmed the development and expressed shock.
“Yes, the incident happened. It was a very big shock that such would happen in a university community. The individuals involved must be punished,” he said.
