Since replacing Benitez in January, Lampard has failed to turn around Everton’s fortunes.
Former Super Eagles and Everton forward Victor Anichebe is convinced that Everton will be relegated from the Premier League unless they sack manager, Frank Lampard.
The 33-year-old called for the sack of the former Chelsea legend following their 3-2 defeat by fellow strugglers Burnley, on Wednesday night.
Anichebe who watched on television was left irritated as Burnley came from 2-1 down at half-time to claim victory. The win took Burnley just one point behind the Lampard-led team.
In a series of posts on his Instagram story, Anichebe showed his frustrations at Lampard’s decisions during the match, including the lateness of Salomon Rondon’s 87th-minute substitution.
“Too late. Should’ve brought him on 10 mins ago”, Anichebe wrote, while also adding that striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin had “been poor”.
“The players aren’t good enough but neither is Frank, as much as I love him as a player and he looks like a top guy, Everton will go down 100% if a change isn’t made”, Anichebe added.
After the final whistle, Anichebe suggested that Everton should go for their former manager Sam Allardyce.
“I said it weeks ago… y’all laughed. Some said rather go down with dignity. Okkkkk”, he posted along with a picture of Allardyce.
“Apologies if I don’t respond tonight, I just can’t be bothered. So…The players are responsible first and foremost. But Everton’s board is absolutely horrendous.
“The money they’ve wasted, the sackings of influential staff like Dan Donachie, not letting Marcel Brands actually do his job, bringing in Rafa [Benitez], creating a complete disconnect with fans and club.”
“Next – appointing Lampard (who is a good coach) but appointing him when you know you’re in a relegation battle with a tough run in…was absurd. Him getting Alli who is a luxury player, in a relegation fight, baffling.”
“If something doesn’t happen tonight they are 100 per cent going down. At the moment it’s 60 per cent. Keep the faith.”
Since replacing Benitez after Everton’s 2-1 loss to Norwich in January, Lampard has failed to turn around the Toffees’ fortunes.
He has managed to pick up just two wins in nine Premier League matches since he became Everton’s boss – holding the worst away record in the league. In all competitions, Lampard has won four and lost eight of the 12 Everton games he’s overseen.
