No body died of Cholera, Empox, Diftheria in Abia in 2025 -State govt

The Abia State government has said that no resident of the state died from Cholera, Diftheria, Lassa Fever, Empox and Yellow Fever since the beginning of 2025.

According to the State government, data obtained from its Ministry of Health confirmed that there was no death recorded from such diseases of public importance across the state in 2025.

The Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu made this known at Government House Umuahia, while briefing Journalists on the outcome of this week’s executive council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

He announced that 81 out of the 102 Primary Health Centres were retrofitted and functionalised across the state while the remaining 92 others would be fully equipped and functionalised by 2026 to for efficiency heath services.

Kanu also stated that the National Malaria Elimination Programme is setting up a vector surveillance laboratory at the Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, to track the prevalence of Malaria disease in Abia State.

Speaking on security, the Special Adviser to Governor Alex Otti on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, said the alleged hijacking of vehicles and kidnapping of passengers along Owerrinta -Airport road Imo-Abia boundary, were yet unconfirmed.

He, however, said that the administration of Governor Alex Otti was committed to protecting the lives and property of residents.
