Disco confirms total blackout in Imo

Nigeria’s Transpower Electricity Distribution has confirmed the forceful shutdown of bulk electricity supply in Imo.

The disco said the disconnection of bulk electricity supply comes after operatives of the Nigeria Police Force allegedly invaded and abducted staff of the Transmission Company of Nigeria at Egbu transmission substation Imo State.

According to the Dicos, the development has thrown the entire state into darkness on Saturday.

“The management of Transpower Electricity Distribution Limited wishes to inform her esteemed customers in Imo State of a total shutdown of power supply which occurred earlier today, Saturday, 15th November 2025, at about 10.20am.

This development was carried out by armed men of the Nigerian Police Force who invaded the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) station at Egbu and assaulted the operator on duty along with other staff present, forcing them to shut down the power supply – a situation that threw the entire Imo State into darkness.

“Transpower appeals to its esteemed customers to be patient as it is on standby awaiting restoration of supply.

“The company assures customers of its commitment to continue delivering improved services,” the statement reads.

Earlier, we reported that the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) threatened to disconnect Imo State from the national grid over the abduction of its workers at gunpoint in the state.
