In a dramatic turn of events on Thursday, Biafra nation agitator, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, in open court, took his case file from his lead counsel and former Attorney General of the Federation, AGF Godwin Kanu Agabi, SAN.
With the gesture, the IPOB leader effectively sacked his lawyers defending him against the terrorism charges brought by the federal government.
The self-acclaimed leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, made the decision shortly after being brought into the courtroom by operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS.
After exchanging pleasantries with the lead counsel, Kanu whispered that he would no longer require their services and that they could leave the court.
The conversation was conveyed to the trial judge, James Omotosho, who inquired of Kanu and confirmed that he would be representing himself.
The judge’s suggestion to assign him a lawyer was declined.
At this point, Agabi, SAN, announced the withdrawal of all the Senior Advocates of Nigeria from the trial.
Repeatedly, the IPOB leader shouted that the court had no jurisdiction to try him.
Kanu is scheduled to open his defence in the terrorism charges against him, having lost his no-case submission earlier.
