The Benue State Government has refuted a report alleging that Governor Hyacinth Alia intends to leave the All Progressives Congress, APC, following claims of a purported “secret meeting” with Senator Iyorchia Ayu.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the Benue State Government dismissed the report as false, mischievous, and intended to distract Governor Alia from his duties.
The statement clarified that the governor routinely visits elder statesmen and national leaders, irrespective of their political or religious affiliations, describing such engagements as a reflection of his inclusive leadership style.
It further explained that Governor Alia frequently meets esteemed personalities, including Senator Ayu, as part of ongoing efforts to foster development in the state.
The statement also highlighted that Governor Alia has been in active discussions with key political stakeholders in Benue, several of whom have already joined the APC.
Among them are former Senator Prof. David Iornem, Elder David Iorwashima Amo, and Ambassador Terhemen Tarzoor.
It emphasized that the APC in Benue State is becoming stronger as more individuals from opposition parties continue to defect across various local government areas.
The government therefore described the claims that the governor plans to leave the APC as fabricated stories designed to create confusion and undermine the administration.
