Paul Onuachu is set to leave KRC Genk after hitting 66 goals and 10 assists in just 3 seasons
Genk assistant coach Glen Riddersholm has confirmed that Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu will leave the Belgian club at the end of this season.
Riddersholm noted that Onuachu is drawing attention from big clubs across Europe as a move is imminent for the 27-year-old striker.
Onuachu led Genk to eighth (8th) in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League for the 2021/22 season, recording 19 goals and two (2) assists in 29 league appearances.
Onuachu can play ‘significant’ roles for big clubs – Genk coach
In an interview with Bold.dk, Riddersholm stated that he is ‘absolutely convinced’ that Onuachu will leave Genk this summer with the likes of Atletico Madrid, Fiorentina, Roma, and Lazio all credited with an interest in the Super Eagles forward.
Riddersholm said: “Yes, I’m absolutely convinced he is. I’m not saying he can play solid for those clubs, but he can play a significant role.
“For some of the clubs, he wants to be a squad player, where he has to have a few minutes, because they play many matches in one
“The question is also whether he wants to be a solid starter every round or whether he has to take new steps. I cannot answer that.
Riddersholm noted that Onuachu could have left the Belgian club during last summer but the financial uncertainty caused by the coronavirus made a transfer complicated.
The 49-year-old Genk coach said: “There were various things that made him not smoke in the summer transfer window, including the uncertain financial situation due to Corona, and then he is not completely cheap either
