Air Peace flight shutdown averted as ATSSSAN suspends strike after meeting IGP

A fresh disruption in Nigeria’s aviation sector has been averted as the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, ATSSSAN, suspended its planned industrial action against Air Peace.

The decision came after the leadership of ATSSSAN met with the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, in Abuja.

In a statement, the union’s General Secretary, Frances Akinjole, said the police urged both parties to maintain peace while investigating the union’s August 11 picketing, which disrupted aviation operations.

“While there, we stated our version of the occurrence of August 11 from our own perspective.

“The police promised to have similar interactions with every other person/organisation that has things to say about the contents of the petition from the Air Peace lawyer, including Air Peace itself,” he said.

Recall that on August 11, workers’ industrial action grounded Air Peace’s flight operations nationwide before the intervention of the government.
