CBN clears air on N5,000 note with Tinubu’s picture

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has said that images of a purported N5,000 banknote with the picture of President Bola Tinubu are fake.

The stories had claimed that the CBN had released a sample of the banknote.

The images went viral on social media, resulting in mixed reactions from Nigerians.

Several users argued over the authenticity of the supposed new currency design.

However, in a post via its official X handle on Thursday, the apex bank debunked the report.

“This content is fake. Let the public be guided,” the CBN wrote.

Recall that in 2025, CBN also debunked claims that it introduced N5,000 and N10,000 banknotes to facilitate cash transactions, describing the report as false.
