A suspected kidnapper, Alex Kehinde, has confessed to the Delta State Police Command that he and his accomplice killed an 80-year-old man and collected N2 million from his son after selling the deceased’s mobile phone
The suspect made the confession in a video posted by Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.
Kehinde said his accomplice, who is now at large, sold the idea to him that they should kidnap and kill the man who contracted him for a renovation job in his building.
He noted that they tricked the man to the site on February 3, 2026, on the pretence that there was a problem with a pipe in the building.
Narrating what happened in pidgin English, he said, “We carry am go upstairs to go show am pipe. We take am sit down ground. As he dey wan shout, we nor want make people hear, we come use foam cover him mouth and nose. He was shaking and we run downstairs, carry him phone sell am, leave the bike for Ogbe-Ogonogo market.”
Speaking in the video, Edafe explained: “On 3rd February 2026, we got a complaint of a certain man whose body was found dead in his house.
“About a month ago in Ogwash, a man who is in his late 70’s contracted this young man to work in his building, one like renovation. So, that he can rent it out intending tenants. Upon inviting this young man, they negotiated a certain amount of money and the man gave him N200,000.00 but according to him, the man was putting pressure on them to get more workers so that they can finish the work on time which he did.
“He (suspect) settled the other workers. It now remained himself and his accomplice who is presently at large.
“According to him, there was no money and they were looking for money. His accomplice sowed the idea to him to kidnap the man so that the money can come.
“They told the man that there’s a plumbing issue up there that the man should follow them upstairs. Upon following them upstairs, they kidnapped the man and forced him to sit on the ground. In an attempt for the man to shout, they carried their working foam and used it to cover his nose and his mouth until that man suffocated and died.
“It did not end there. Having murdered this man, they went away with his motorcycle and his phone. Took the phone to Ogbe-Ogonogo, removed the sim card, sold the phone for N30,000, dropped the bike elsewhere.
“They inserted the man’s sim card in one of their phones and called the man’s son that they have kidnapped his father.
“After killing this man, they went ahead and collected the sum of N2 million from the son of the victim. It is so sad. I’m touched and I don’t even know how to narrate this pathetic story.”
