Delta vigilante shoots three dead at Sapele hotel, suspect at large

Delta State Police Command, led by CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, on Thursday confirmed that a vigilante on guard duty at a hotel in Sapele shot three persons dead.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, December 1, at Ibada-Elume Community in Sapele.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the report in a telephone call to our correspondent in Warri.

According to the police spokesperson, “The suspect who shot is at large.”

It was gathered that the electricity went off in the early hours of Monday, December 1, at the hotel, prompting some youths who were lodged there to come out due to the heat.

They started making noise somewhere on the premises, and a vigilante on duty asked them to return to their rooms, threatening to shoot.

The youths declined and asked him to do his worst. Truly, the vigilante opened fire and shot one of them. They rushed the victim to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

Out of anger, the youths mobilized to the hotel, but by this time, the vigilante had regrouped, and in their bid to ward off the youths, they shot two other persons dead instantly.

The youths retreated and mobilized for a reprisal attack, but when they arrived, the vigilante had escaped from the scene.

The youths eventually burnt down the hotel. The matter is currently before the Sapele Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force.
