Several people were feared dead on Friday night after a gas explosion devastated the Bioku-Alaadun community in Ona Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State.
It was gathered that the explosion occurred when a gas tanker was offloading its content into a retail outlet in the neighbourhood.
The blast reportedly affected the shop owner and others who were close to the scene at the time.
Confirming the incident in a phone interview with our correspondent, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Yemi Akinyinka, said emergency responders had been deployed and were actively working to bring the situation under control.
“Our officers are on the ground and still responding. The explosion happened while gas was being discharged. We can confirm that there are casualties, but the full details are still being compiled,” Akinyinka said.
