No fewer than seven person have died and 11 injured in a fatal motor accident along kiyawa–azare road in JIgawa State.
An eyewitness told us that the accident involved a Toyota Hummer Bus carrying 18 passengers from Kano to Potiskum.
He said many of the passengers died on the spot, while others sustained various injuries.
Police spokesman, SP. Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the incident in a statement issued to newsmen.
He said, upon receipt of the report, personnel of the Motor Traffic Division (MTD), led by Divisional Police Officer, Kiyawa Division, swiftly responded to the scene for rescue operations
He explained that seven seven persons, including the driver, died on the spot, while 11 others sustained various degrees of injuries and were immediately rushed to General Hospital Dutse for medical attention.
He said four of the injured victims have since been treated and discharged, while the remaining are still receiving treatment.
The corpses were deposited at the General Hospital Dutse mortuary, while efforts are currently ongoing to contact their families.
The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Command, CP Dahiru Muhammad, expresses deep sympathy to the families of the deceased and prayed for the quick recovery of the injured victims.
He further called on motorists to ensure strict adherence to road safety guidelines, proper vehicle maintenance and cautious driving.
