Niger LG polls: APC wins 25 LG seats, 271 out of 274 councillorship seats

The Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) has officially announced the results of Saturday’s local government elections, with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) emerging winner of all 25 chairmanship seats in the state.

The commission, in a statement made available to newsmen and signed by the Commissioner for Operations, Barr. Mohammed Liman, said all Returning Officers had completed the collation and declaration of results in accordance with electoral laws and operational guidelines.

According to him, “After a thorough review, the Commission ratified the results, confirming the election of candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in all chairmanship positions.

“The elected chairmen include important figures such as Dr. Mustapha M. Jibrin of Chanchaga, Usman Manko Mohammad of Bida, and Sayuti Ibrahim Halilu of Agaie, among others,” Liman noted.

He also explained that, aside from winning the 25 chairmanship seats, the APC secured victory in 271 out of the 274 councillorship seats.

The electoral umpire disclosed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) managed to win only two councillorship seats in Tafa and Rafi Local Councils, respectively.

The Commission congratulated all the elected chairmen and councillors, stressing the importance of transparency, accountability, and unwavering commitment to public service in the development of their local councils.

The Commissioner for Operations also stated that Certificates of Return would be formally presented to the elected officials, adding that stakeholders would receive notifications regarding the presentation in due course.

The state electoral body reiterated its commitment to maintaining credible, transparent, and inclusive electoral processes.

The statement further commended the security agencies, observers, the media, political parties, and the electorate for their cooperation in ensuring a hitch-free local council election.
