NDLEA destroys 8,165kg of illicit drugs in Yobe

The Yobe State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed 8,165 kilograms of illicit drugs following an order of the federal high court.

The exercise, which took place in Damaturu, was carried out under the supervision of senior NDLEA officials and other stakeholders.

Director of Operations and General Investigations, DCGN Ahmed Suleiman Ningi, said the command had seized a total of 16,011 kilograms of various narcotics which includes 13,595 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, 2,476 kilograms of psychotropic substances, 0.04 kilograms of cocaine, and 0.1 kilograms of heroin.

Ningi explained that while 8,165 kilograms were approved for destruction, the remaining 7,846 kilograms were still under court process and kept in the agency’s exhibit room.

The Yobe State Commander of the NDLEA, CN Abdulaziz Kayode Ogungboye, said the destruction of the drugs was proof that the fight against drug trafficking and abuse in Yobe State was yielding results.
