INEC: Yakubu never paid attention to opposition – CUPP

The Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, has accused the immediate past chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Mahmoud Yakubu, of not paying attention to opposition political parties.

National Secretary of CUPP, Peter Ameh, who made this allegation on Wednesday, while responding to questions in an interview on ‘Sunrise Daily’, a programme on Channels Television, said there were promises that were not kept.

The allegation is coming barely 24 hours after Yakubu bowed out as INEC chairman and handed over to the oldest serving National Commissioner in the electoral body, May Agbamuche, in acting capacity.

“The conduct of the 2023 election leaves a bitter taste in our mouths under Mahood, and that is what he will be remembered for. He made promises that were not kept.

“Opposition parties suffered under Mahmoud. He was not accommodating when it comes to opposition or multi-party democracy. All he wanted was to crush it.

“Go to that place and see for yourself. The junior staff and all the staff are celebrating that Mahmoud has left.

“What you see was an elitist escort to protect him from the anger that was in the Commission. The high-handedness was much. There wasn’t any interaction or essence to build any capacity for staff,” the CUPP national scribe said.
