Fire guts Rivers government secretariat

A section of the Rivers State Government Secretariat situated in Port Harcourt has reportedly been razed by fire.

The Cable reports that the cause of the fire has not been ascertained.

According to the report, the fire affected the section that houses the Rivers State Pension Board.

The development comes a few weeks after President Bola Tinubu recalled the suspended governor of the state, Siminalayi Fubara, and members of the State House of Assembly.

Recall that Tinubu had declared a state of emergency in the oil-rich Niger Delta state on March 18, 2025.

The incident has been confirmed by Honour Sirawoo, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information.

He did not state if there were any casualties.

Sirawoo added that firefighters from both the state and Federal Fire Services (FFS) are currently at the scene, working to put out the flames.
