Police arrest APGA candidate over alleged assassination attempt

The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, House of Assembly candidate for Aba North Constituency of Abia State, Destiny Nwagwu, has been arrested by the men of Nigeria Police, Aba Divisional Command.

This was confirmed by the Abia State chairman of APGA, Reverend Augustine Ehiemere, on Tuesday night in a telephone interview with WE4WEREPORTS, alleging that some men dressed in plain cloth with the inscription SARS(Special Anti-Robbery Squad) arrested the

He said,” Between hours of 6:am to 7:am today, they whisked away Nwagwu to unknown location from his residence in Aba.”

Further investigation by our correspondent revealed that the Aba North State Constituency APGA candidate was being held based on a petition written against Nwagwu by the Transition Committee (TC) chairman of Aba North, Mr. Charles Eseonu.

Attempt to reach the Abia State Command Police spokesman, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna, proved abortive. But, a police officer at the Aba Area Command, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed that the APGA chieftain was in their custody.

He said, “Is Nwagwu above the law? He was not arrested, but, was invited by the police over allegations in a petition against him. There is a petition against him by the Aba north TC chairman.

“He has been posting on social media, so many things against the petitioner. He was only invited to say what he knows.”

When WE4WEREPORTS eventually met with Nwagwu at the Aba area command, he explained that he was arrested by police at his residence in Aba while he was trying to drive out at about 6: 30am on Monday morning.

He also used the opportunity to debunk the allegation that he sent assassin against the petitioner.
