Omeruo happy to cut ties with Chelsea

Leganes defender, Kenneth Omeruo, admits he is happy to have cut ties with Chelsea for a move to the La Liga outfit this summer.

Omeruo joined Chelsea from Liège in 2012 and was immediately loaned out to Eredivisie club ADO Den Haag, which signalled the beginning of several loan spells for the Nigeria international.

The 25-year-old was on the books of the London club for seven seasons but never made an official appearance before eventually joining Leganes in Spain.

“Every year I thought it was the opportunity to play for Chelsea, but in the end, it didn’t come. So, last season I told them, ‘Let me go play in LaLiga and see if I have a level’,” he told AS.

“I had several options, but the coach at the time (Mauricio Pellegrino) gave me a lot of confidence and told me that he wanted me to stay.

“The club made an effort to sign me. I didn’t think they could buy me from Chelsea, but they got me.”

Omeruo played a total of 28 matches for the Los Pepineros last season and already has another five this season.
