Hard work in training pays off – Iheanacho

Kelechi Iheanacho has said his hard work in training aided his maiden Premier League goal for the 2019/20 season.

Iheanacho is delighted to have provided an assist and scored deep into stoppage time for Leicester City, who came from a goal down to beat Everton 2-1 in a pulsating Premier League game on Sunday.

The goal was Iheanacho’s third this season in three appearances. He has two goals in the Carabao Cup.

The win helped the Foxes close the gap on leaders Liverpool at the top of the Premier League.

The goal was Iheanacho’s first in the EPL in 15 months. He last scored for the Foxes in their 2-1 win over Huddersfield Town in September 22, 2018.

Speaking to the club’s website, Iheanacho said, “It was a great moment, (it was) my first game of the season and first goal, so I’m really buzzing – I’m happy.

“It all came from the hard work in training, I’ve been working hard and keeping my head up and waiting for the opportunity to come. I’m happy it came, and I took it.

The 23-year-old forward hailed his teammates spirit as they secured their sixth straight win in the English top-flight.

He said, “To be fair, this team, starting from the players, to the staff and the manager – everyone – we are all together, so everyone is happy with each other

“Those who are playing or those who are not playing, everyone is happy. It’s a great squad, it’s a happy place to be.

“I know everyone is happy for me, they’ve been waiting for me to do this, so I’m happy as well. We’re all happy!”
