Gunmen kill Radio Nigeria worker in Makurdi

Suspected gunmen on Saturday night shot and killed two people in Makurdi, the capital city of Benue State.

One of the murdered persons was a member of staff of Harvest FM Radio  station in Makurdi, Peter Kumbur.

Kumbur, until his demise, was  head of the Engineering Services  and ICT, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Harvest FM, Makurdi.

An eyewitness who identified himself as Lever Akpo, told our correspondent that Kumbur was relaxing very close to his  house located along School Lane, Low Level, Makurdi when the gunmen shot him.

He added that the assailants, after killing the engineer, also killed a neighbour who heard of gunshots and rushed out to know the identities of the killers.

“I sat close to Engr Kumbur at a drinking joint and I saw him when he stood up to go home. When he moved towards his house, then we heard gunshots. I believe the gunmen laid in ambush for him.

“Unfortunately, the people turned back and killed the neighbour who came out to see those shooting guns.

“Kumbur was shot at close range and died instantly. Late Kumbur was very jovial, brilliant and so accommodating young man who loved everyone that came close to him while he was alive”, Akpo said.

Commiserating with the FRCN,  Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom  charged police and other security agencies in the state to move speedily and apprehend the killers of Mr Patrick Kumbur and ensure they were  brought to justice.
