
Suspected armed herders have killed one person in renewed attacks along the Agagbe–Naka–Agatu axis in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.
Security sources disclosed that the incident occurred on 27 January at about 6:01 pm on the Agagbe–Naka Road.
According to the sources, military personnel alerted the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Naka Division through a distress call, reporting that a resident of Naka, identified as Iorsugh Genabe, was attacked and killed while travelling along the route by suspected herder bandits.
The DPO was said to have immediately mobilised a patrol team, alongside other tactical units, to the scene of the incident.
Police authorities later confirmed that the victim’s body was recovered and deposited at the Agagbe mortuary for an autopsy.
Sources further revealed that efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the perpetrators, adding that the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has taken over the case for discreet investigation.
Meanwhile, security presence has been reinforced in the area to forestall further attacks and restore confidence among residents.
