I proudly declare that I am Obidient. I stand firmly on Obi or nothing.” — Dr. Betty Akeredolu

As reported by ‘Igboculturalmagazine.com’

Former First Lady of Ondo state and a prominent Imo East Senatorial aspirant for 2027 general elections, Dr Betty Akeredolu (Ada Owere1), has delivered an extremely fascinating speech during the official inauguration ceremony of the Obidients Movement in Owerri Municipal LGA.

Mrs Akeredolu was represented at the occasion by her aide, Prince Joseph Nwosu Okoire, who addressed committed Obidients Movement members on her behalf while she was on a short official engagement in Ibadan, Oyo state.

Read this beautifully articulated speech by the erudite scholar, legal luminary and noble politician:

“Speech by Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu (Ada Owere 1)
Delivered by Prince Joseph Nwosu-Okorie
At the Inauguration of Obidients Movement, Owerri Municipal LGA
On 29th January, 2026.

Good evening distinguished Obidients, leaders, elders, youths, and committed patriots of Owerri Municipal, Owerri Zone and Imo State.

I would have loved to be physically present with you today. Unfortunately, your invitation reached me barely two days ago, and being currently in Ibadan made it impracticable to travel on such short notice. I therefore delegated my aide, Prince Joseph, to represent me and convey my message.

First, let me warmly congratulate you on the inauguration of the Obidients Movement in Owerri Municipal LGA. What you represent today is more than a political gathering — it is a movement of conscience, hope, and collective resolve.

The Obidients phenomenon has become both an enigma to Nigeria and a nightmare to politicians who wish to preserve the status quo — a system marked by poor infrastructure, food insecurity, abuse of office, human rights violations, insecurity, corruption, impunity, and widespread hardship.

I proudly declare that I am Obidient.
I stand firmly on Obi or Nothing — not as a slogan, but as an affirmation of values. Peter Obi represents the leadership Nigeria urgently needs, anchored on the 3 Cs: Character, Competence, and Capacity.

His insistence that a single tenure is enough to reset Nigeria is courageous and inspiring. It tells us that purposeful leadership can deliver meaningful change within four years. I believe him. It is POssible.

This renewed hope is already reshaping the aspirations of young Nigerians, replacing the “japa syndrome” with a belief in rebuilding at home.

Motivated by this vision, I hereby formally inform you of my intention to contest for the Imo East Senatorial District (Owerri Zone) seat in the 2027 elections.

Permit me to briefly introduce myself.
I am Dr. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu (Ada Owere 1) — proud daughter of Chief B. U. B. Anyanwu (late) and Nneoma Dora Anyanwu (late) of Emeabiam, Owerri West LGA. I am a retired public servant, development advocate, entrepreneur, and politician.

Owerri Zone deserves leadership that delivers tangible results.
I bring over four decades of practical experience spanning advocacy, enterprise, philanthropy, and policy — combining grassroots engagement with evidence-based solutions.

Through the BEMORE Empowered Girls Foundation, I have empowered over 3000 girls and youth, nationwide, in STEM, ICT, solar technology, entrepreneurship, and leadership. I am proud to say that Imo girls have been beneficiaries of BEMORE since its inception in 2017.
At our most recent BEMORE Summer Bootcamp held in Ibadan, Oyo State, August 24- September 6, 2025, seventeen (17) girls from Imo participated. Each returned home with a brand-new laptop and a home solar system, ensuring that their journey into technology continues beyond the classroom.

This is practical empowerment — giving our girls tools, skills, and sustained access to opportunity.

Through the Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu Foundation (BAAF), I pioneered accelerated birth registration and widows’ care programmes using computerized, data-driven systems that removed distance barriers, expanded coverage at low cost, and attracted collaboration with UNHCR. It is important to note that widows in Owerri Federal Constituency benefitted from BAAF’s Igolo Abiam widows care programme in 2021.

Through BRECAN, the Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria, I have championed awareness of breast, cervical, and prostate cancers, emphasizing that early detection saves lives.

I am also a practicing aquaculturist and founder of Aquatek Farms Ventures, applying academic knowledge to increase fish production, strengthen food security, and transfer technology to farmers and youth.

These initiatives reflect my lifelong commitment to human capital development, health, food security, and social inclusion.
I now seek to take this solutions-driven experience to the Senate — to represent Owerri Zone with integrity, impact, and people-centered leadership.

Together, let us build a new Owerri zone.
Together, let us build a new Imo.
Together, let us build a new Nigeria.

Thank you for your attention and your commitment to change.
